As the EU’s independent external auditor, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) has a clear mission: to check that EU funds are properly accounted for, used in line with the rules, and deliver the expected results. Although it has no judicial powers, the ECA plays a vital role in promoting transparency and accountability across all areas of EU activity — from climate policy and digital transformation to cohesion funds and external action. Some 60 trainees will be given the opportunity to gain a few months’ direct experience of this important work.
What is it like to be part of an institution like the ECA, to see first-hand how the EU strives to make a difference to people’s lives? What goes on behind the scenes in the audit work that shapes the ECA’s reports on how EU money is spent, and how does this ultimately benefit EU citizens? If you are interested in finding out, you can apply for one of the paid traineeships the ECA offers young, dynamic, motivated professionals from across Europe each year, which generally last six months.
Applications are now open for the traineeship commencing in October 2025, so if you would like to gain valuable hands-on experience in either auditing, communication, translation, IT or law, and more — all while working in a truly international and multicultural environment in Luxembourg — you will need to submit your application between 1 April and 31 May 2025.
Whether you are fresh out of university or looking to boost your profile with EU-level experience, our programme will give you a chance to work alongside experienced professionals and gain a better understanding of how the EU really works.
