The Council of the European Union today appointed two new Members, one from Cyprus and one from Malta, to serve a six-year mandate at the European Court of Auditors (ECA).
Mr George Marius Hyzler, who since 2018 has been the commissioner for standards in public life in Malta, was appointed as an ECA Member for the period from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2028, replacing Mr Leo Brincat.
Mr Lefteris Christoforou, who has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2014, serving as a full member of the Committee on Budgetary Control, was appointed as an ECA Member for the period from 2 November 2022 to 1 November 2028, replacing Mr Lazaros Lazarou.
The Treaty requires the Members to perform their duties in complete independence and in the general interest of the European Union.
The Council takes its decisions on the basis of proposals by the Member States and after consulting the European Parliament.
The ECA's organisation chart and governance structure are available on its website (eca.europa.eu) and will be updated in due course.
