The ECA recruits its staff on the basis of the Staff regulations. Our workforce consists of both permanent civil servants and staff on temporary contracts. Open competitions for posts at the ECA are organised by the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO).
Temporary staff may be employed to perform a wide variety of highly specialised or temporary tasks. The ECA also organises three to five month traineeship sessions per year in areas of interest for its work.
Mobility
The ECA fosters mobility across the organisation and encourages staff rotation through different areas and responsibilities. The staff rotation policy aims to enhance motivation, career development and audit quality while preserving professional independence. To mitigate the risks associated with sensitive posts (authorising officers, staff responsible for recruitment and procurement, etc.), the Court has put in place ex ante and ex post safeguards. The Accounting Officer’s term of office is limited to seven years, after which period they are subject to compulsory mobility.
Training
The ECA provides an average of 40 hours of professional training per auditor according to the International Federation of Accountants’ guidelines.
Staff diversity
The ECA applies an equal opportunities policy, in accordance with the Staff Regulations, which prohibits discrimination of any kind.
The ECA is committed to supporting, developing and promoting diversity and equality. The ECA’s recruitment and employment practices aim to develop and maintain a non-discriminatory and inclusive culture (see the ECA’s ethical guidelines).

The ECA has also drawn up a specific
Equal Opportunities Action Plan 2018-2020.
Salaries
The following tables show the basic monthly salaries before tax of the staff and Members of the European Court of Auditors.
These basic salaries are set by the Staff Regulations of Officials of the European Union and the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the Union, and are exempt from national tax but subject to EU tax.
Under the conditions laid down by the Staff Regulations, certain allowances may be added to the basic salary, depending on a staff member's individual situation and family circumstances.
