The European Court of Auditors (ECA) will publish a briefing paper “Future of the CAP” on Monday 19 March 2018 at 11h30.
ABOUT CAP and BRIEFING PAPER
The EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is currently under review, as the current seven-year planning period for EU finances ends in 2020.
The ECA’s briefing paper on the future of the CAP comes in response to the European Commission’s Communication on the future of food and farming after 2020.
The auditors are expected to call for increased focus on performance and EU added value. They will also put forward their views on the key success requirements of the “new delivery model” reflected on by the Commission, which is based on increased flexibility and subsidiarity and giving Member States more responsibility for performance.
The Commission is expected to present a legislative proposal for the next CAP together with an impact assessment in May 2018. This briefing paper is expected to inform the ECA’s future review of the proposal once it is published.
The European Court of Auditors’ briefing papers are descriptive and analytical documents, in which the ECA sets out its accumulated experience and knowledge on the selected policy or management topic.
