Much of our work overlaps with ITRE’s interests in the areas of innovation, R&D, SMEs, energy and the digital marketplace.

As the EU’s auditors, we also look ahead in order to help address key challenges facing the EU in future. Emerging technologies are changing the way people make business, work and live. Automation and artificial intelligence threaten to change industries faster than societies can adjust. In the near future, machines will increasingly support or even autonomously make public-sector decisions about people and businesses. The exploding possibilities of genome editing will necessitate a careful balance between exploiting potential and preventing abuse.

We will keep all these factors in mind when selecting our audit tasks and formulating recommendations for the future.
