The European Union is the world's largest aid donor. Our audit reports examined spending in specific countries and looked at crosscutting issues.
As the EU’s auditors, we also look ahead in order to help address the key challenges facing the EU in future. The Western bloc is currently in a phase of relative decline, while other countries, such as China and India, are playing an increasing role in international politics, influencing global energy, climate, security, trade and development policies. Stability and economic development are essential to reduce migratory pressure from Africa towards Europe, one reason why the EU policy aims to reduce tensions within and between African states. At the same time, the emergence of new actors is threatening the EU’s traditional economic role in this geographical area.
We will keep all these factors in mind when selecting our audit tasks and formulating recommendations for the future.
