The primary goal of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy is to ensure that the fishing and aquaculture sectors are environmentally, economically and socially sustainable in the long term.
As the EU’s auditors, we also look ahead in order to help address key challenges facing the EU in future. Oceans and seas are a major natural resource, but their ecological sustainability is at risk because of pollution, unsustainable and illegal fisheries, and the disruption of ecosystems by climate change.
We will keep all these factors in mind when selecting our audit tasks and formulating recommendations for the future.
