The EU plans its spending across various policy areas on the basis of a long-term budget, known as the “multiannual financial framework (MFF)”. According to the European Commission’s proposals made in July 2025, the EU budget for 2028-2034 will amount to almost €2 trillion. Under EU law, the European Court of Auditors must be consulted when the content of EU legislative proposals would have a significant financial impact for the EU. We have therefore issued a number of opinions on specific proposals related to the 2028-2034 EU budget.​
