Who are we?

The European Court of Auditors is the EU’s independent external auditor. The ECA’s mission is to contribute to improving EU financial management, promote accountability and transparency, and act as the independent guardian of the financial interests of the citizens of the Union. The ECA’s role is to check that EU funds are correctly accounted for, are raised and spent in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations, and have achieved value for money.

Energy security is a key priority for the ECA in , as set out in our annual work programme. As part of our work, we produce around 30 special reports per year, which set out the results of selected performance audits of specific budgetary areas or management topics.

In the energy field, we are currently conducting audits on the security of energy supply, focusing on the internal energy market, and EU assistance to Ukraine in which energy is one of the themes. Follow the links below to view some of our recent special reports on energy related topics.
