About us
We are the European Court of Auditors.
We are a public body of the European Union.
We check how the European Union spends its money.
The European Union is made up of 27 countries.
The 27 countries work closely together.
Our office is in Luxembourg.
Around 900 people work at our office.
People from all the countries of the European Union work at our office.
This is our office.
Our work
We check where the European Union’s money goes.
We check that the European Union spends its money in the right way.
We also check if the money spent makes things better.
Our checks are called audits.
The people who do the checks are called auditors.
We check lots of different things.
Below are some of the things we check:
- farms

- transport

- safety

- helping people

When we finish an audit, we write a report.
A report is an official paper.
Our reports tell people what we found out in our checks.
Our reports also give ideas to make things better.
The ideas are called recommendations.
Our reports help the European Union spend the money in the right way.
Examples of our work
Roads
Some countries of the European Union needed new roads.
So the European Union gave them money to build the new roads.
We went to see the new roads.
We checked if the countries really used the money to build the new roads.
We also checked if the new roads
help people travel around more easily.
Then we wrote a report
to tell people what we found out.
Supporting people with disabilities
The European Union helps its countries to support people with disabilities.
It does this by setting goals and giving money.
The countries have to reach the goals.
We checked if the goals and money
really helped people with disabilities.
We wrote an easy-to-read report
to tell people what we found out.
