The Council of the European Union today appointed Stephanus Blok, from the Netherlands, to serve as a Member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA).
Mr Stephanus Abraham Blok has held various positions in the government of the Netherlands since 2012, including serving as Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy from May 2021 until January 2022. He was appointed as an ECA Member for the period from 1 September 2022 to 31 December 2025 to complete the term of the previous Dutch Member. The post at the ECA has been vacant since the death of Mr Alex Brenninkmeijer in April.
The Treaty requires the Members to perform their duties in complete independence and in the general interest of the European Union.
The Council takes its decisions on the basis of proposals by the Member States and after consulting the European Parliament.
The ECA's organisation chart and governance structure are available on its website (eca.europa.eu) and will be updated in due course.
